The honey tree (Styphnolobium japonicum) owes its name to the many sweet-smelling, creamy white flowers that appear late in the summer. They are full of nectar and are therefore frequently visited by honey bees. In English the species is known as pagoda tree. A reference to the planting of the species near Japanese temples.
